SHE'S ALL YOURS

Grace Balena

my belly is a sinner : aching to the ends of the

earth : in a want not her own

maybe the smile : i gorged on : was residual of

another : because what is my heart if not a burden

the naked virgin : alone with herself and her sin :

(son) : a body is a blemish is the horse with a broken leg

why save the damn thing : once the flower blooms it’s plucked

and killed and thrown away : the shelf life of a woman

sweetgum seed pods ensnare my lip : a jewel of sap

intermixed with welling blood : her sweet anger kissing my brow

his open palm raised to the sky in repentance : or so it seems

for that precious moment before it falls : the divinity of a strung bow
