WORLD INSANE

welcome to a

Welcome to World Insane. We are a women-owned and run online literary magazine featuring the work of female-identifying artists. We believe in the power of literature and art to be a catalyst for change and our mission is to elevate stories and artwork that is especially thought-provoking and reflective.

We were inspired to create World Insane by current events and the rise of anti-feminist movements and legislation. Throughout history, women's voices have been ignored, covered up, and criticized for their ideas and threat they pose to people in power. We are committed to celebrating these voices, giving them a platform, and validating the anger, passion, and emotions of women everywhere.

Our issues

Our issues feature poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art pieces from female-identifying artists and authors around the world. Each issue is laid out like a gallery, and within the introduction we link an Organization of the Issue. While free to read, we ask our viewers to make a donation or some type of contribution to the magazine (for example reposting their social media or volunteering if possible), to support us and women's rights everywhere. Our organizations are chosen for each issue based on the work they do for women's rights internationally.

  • I'm not eligible to submit/I'm not an artist, but I still want to get involved!
We've organized our website so it's super easy for anyone to get involved with our publication and mission! Some ways to start: - Follow us on Instagram @worldinsanelitmag. Support our posts! - Buy an issue of our magazine! Under "Issues", find the links to our pay-what-you-want issues. We recommend $5. After covering the basic costs of running our publication, all profits will be donated to the organization of the issue you purchased! - Educate yourself about women's rights. On our "Get Involved" page you can find sources. - Volunteer with or donate to the organizations we support! - Spread the word to your writer/artist/reader friends!
  • Can I submit multiple pieces per submission window?
Yes, absolutely! There is no cap on submissions. However, we do ask that each piece you submit is submitted individually, even within the same category.
  • What happens after I submit?
We aim to respond to every submission we receive within two weeks. If you have not heard from us after a month, feel free to email us at worldinsanelitmag@gmail.com in regards to your submission. If accepted, for fiction and nonfiction pieces, we typically have a round of copy edits that will be sent for you to review, along with a deadline.
  • I got rejected. What now?
As a team of writers and artists, we understand the disappointment that comes with rejection. However, we want to reiterate that for our publication, and many others, a rejection is not always a reflection of the artist's skill or potential. Especially as a social justice publication, we prioritize works that have themes and perspectives that align with our mission. If you've been rejected, keep writing, and keep submitting. We love to see familiar pieces that have been revised and resubmitted.
  • Will my piece be edited/changed?
Except for copy edits (which are all approved by the piece's original author), and alterations of words to standard American English (colour > color), we do not make any changes to submissions. If you have a concern, email us at worldinsanelitmag@gmail.com.
